Mountain Vista cabin has three king bedrooms and features spectacular 50-mile views. Others charge for s’mores kits…not us!

Beavers Bend Tips

  • Never pay for firewood in Beavers Bend. Make sure it’s included at your cabin.
  • Beware of flaky insurance fee scams when reserving cabins in Broken Bow.
  • Be leery of terms and conditions referencing “Starter Kits” when reserving a cabin. Mountain Vista doesn’t skimp on supplies…and they’re not generic.
  • Ask about highway noise and proximity to other cabins before booking.
  • Look for cleaning, insurance and resort fee charges.

Watch Out For Beavers Bend Add-On Fees

You never have to pay Beavers Bend add-on fees for firewood, insurance, cleaning or hot tub usage at Mountain Vista cabin.

Our busy booking season has arrived. Oklahoma spring break is packed but we have a few openings for many Arkansas and Texas school districts.

President’s Day, February 20-22 is now available at Mountain Vista. This is always a popular date for those off work seeking a quick getaway.

Download our Beavers Bend app for a complete list of area activities.

The Broken Bow Lake Duck Tours will be open again in March. This highly popular tourist attraction offers great insight about Beavers Bend State Park. You’ll enjoy jaunting across the pristine water of Broken Bow Lake in this comfortable amphibious vessel.

Sherri and I along with our very spoiled Grand Champion Brussels Griffon just returned from a week in Southern California. The weather was actually warmer in Oklahoma during the duration of our stay than at Newport Beach.

Mountain Vista features stunning 20-miles views and acres of seclusion in the upscale Southern Hills Addition near Beavers Bend State Park.  The cabin has been featured in Oklahoma’s centennial celebration book and lauded by TravelOK as “A Place To Stay In Oklahoma.”

Unlike many cabins in Broken Bow, you deal directly with us, the owners, rather than a large management company.

I’ve noticed a dramatic surge in rental property interest in the past couple of months. If you’re considering purchasing or building a cabin in Beavers Bend and need consultation, let me know.  I’ve written numerous articles you can find online about how to market luxury properties.

We’re considering adding and marketing cabins on our website, social media outlets and app. Ask yourself if you’d like your cabin marketed by a company already overseeing 30-70 other cabins.

How will you receive individualized media attention while competing with scores of cabins on a website?

Summer Update

Summer Update

We’re rolling through the summer at Mountain Vista and swamped with bookings. Only July 11-14 and 17-20 remain open this month.

Guests checked out today and sent us this note:

“Oh my gosh, I honestly can’t tell you how amazing it was and how much fun the kids had! Thank you very much for all the preparation that obviously goes on to ensure that we had a great time!”

We’re fortunate to have earned a loyal following and great visitors for years at Mountain Vista. Our top guest in 2015 stayed with us six times…they’re big-time fans!

No weekends are open at Mountain Vista in July and only two are available in August.

October is a perfect time to visit Beavers Bend cabins and enjoy the famous fall foliage season. Only two weekends remain open…it’s a very popular month.

The Talimena Drive should be on your must-do list when visiting Broken Bow in the fall. It’s convenient for OKC visitors visiting our area. Head to Sallisaw and down to Broken Bow.

The drive is stunning…

The winding roads provide picturesque views of Southeastern Oklahoma. There are plenty of  fantastic spots to pullover for photo-ops.

Resort Fees Under Scrutiny

Resort Fees Under Scrutiny

Resort fees are under scrutiny from the Federal Trade Commission according to an article in the Washington Post.

We were the first to take a stand against greedy resort fees in Beavers Bend State Park several years ago. Now, a few cabin management companies in Broken Bow have followed our lead and wave the “No Add-On Fees” flag.

Wyndham Worldwide is facing a lawsuit from customers. Consumers are sick and tired of paying needless fees. I’ve heard a plethora of feedback from Beavers Bend luxury cabin guess and they echo our sentiments…

Resort and add-on fees are wrong.

After I began writing about resort fees in Beavers Bend a few years ago, a few new terms were formed. Hot tub, incidental, cleaning…we’re due for a new fee name soon.

Here’s a quick refresher course…

  • Never pay hot tub fees
  • Never pay resort fees
  • Never pay cleaning fees…unless you leave the cabin untidy.
  • Never pay firewood fees
  • Never pay incidental fees
  • Never pay insurance fees

“Resort fees allow a hotel to advertise one low price but charge a much higher price to a guest when they arrive at the hotel. It is truly shameful behavior,” according to @KillResortFees.

Resort Fees Under Scrutiny

Their website has a wealth of information for the novice to seasoned traveler.

When shopping for a luxury cabin in Broken Bow, pay attention to more than simply the advertised price. Dig through the terms and conditions and look for these unnecessary resort fees.

Summer weekend dates are full at Mountain Vista until mid-August. Limited weekdays are available in July.

Fall Foliage dates will begin filling quickly. Make your October-November Beavers Bend reservations soon. It’s one of the busiest times of the year in our area.

Great Fishing On Broken Bow Lake

Beavers Bend guests are enjoying great fishing on Broken Bow Lake.

My favorite guide, Bryce Archey, says bass and walleye have been hitting the lure feverishly. His upcoming focus will be on bass and says the fishing should be tremendous through the end of June. Many experts say fishing is the best since the 1970’s.

Bryce is highly sought after as a guide and booked until mid-June. He’s great with kids to pro anglers and always makes the outing fun.

I annually go out with Bryce during the dog days of August and we’ve never had a slow day of fishing. His experience and ability to adjust to water levels and temperatures has given him rock-star status with the rod and reel on Broken Bow Lake.

Bryce provides all the equipment and snacks to make your outing perfect. You only need an Oklahoma fishing license to be set for a tremendous angling adventure.

We have fish and stay packages available with Bryce at BeaversBendVacations.com.

Fish Tales Winery and Vineyards

Fish Tales Winery and Vineyards

Fish Tales Winery and Vineyards recently opened in Beavers Bend across from the state park entrance.

The charming winery has an outdoor deck and is the only winery in the area that produces any of their own grapes. The location is the former Three Rivers Fly Shop and it has been renovated nicely.

I enjoyed sampling several of their creations and the hospitality was stellar at Fish Tales. Their muscadine wine likely be the fan favorite. The grapes are grown locally and their tender loving care is evident with each sip of this fantastic vino.

Fish Tales Winery and Vineyards

Beavers Bend now boasts three wineries and tourists love taking the tasting trifecta. Two-million tourists visit the Broken Bow Lake area annually. Three wineries coupled with a new distillery and beer brewery will leave your thirst for libations quenched beyond belief! I’ll have a feature on the new Beavers Bend Brewery coming soon.

Download our Beavers Bend app for a complete listing of all attractions in the area, including VIP promotional offers.

Tales Winery and Vineyards

Fish Tales Winery and Vineyards should definitely be on your must do list when visiting Beavers Bend State Park and Broken Bow Lake. It’s only five minutes away from Mountain Vista Cabin.
