Mountain Vista’s Deck View

The foliage surrounding Mountain Vista changes dramatically each day during this time of year. It’s truly breathtaking to view the changes occurring overnight. This shot was taken on October 22nd from our deck.

I enjoyed visiting with the staff at Adam & Eve’s Coffee House earlier this week. They have great java and food along with a fantastic gift shop. They are offering catering to luxury cabins and will make a formal announcement soon. I saw a few pictures of their food for a recent catering project and it looked fantastic!

We only have one weekend available at Mountain Vista until January. It’s December 10-13. 2016 dates are already beginning to fill. If you want a peak date for holidays or spring break, make your reservations now. Many people are amazed at how quickly the top luxury cabins in Broken Bow get booked for peak dates.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Broken Bow Lake area, two million tourists visit our Southeastern Oklahoma gem each year. We’re a highly popular getaway destination for OKC and DFW residents.

Download our Beavers Bend app for area information and promotional offers. The app gives you access to our blog that is read by thousands each month. We also have the ability to send occasional texts for last-minute offers and important local news.

The burn ban has been lifted in Beavers Bend and our guests are enjoying free firewood on our acres of secluded property.  Browse other websites and research how many offer free firewood. Do your homework and study other websites regarding whether they charge for insurance, cleaning, resort fees or any frivolous add-on fees. We also feature our highly popular free S’mores Kits!

Get to Mountain Vista during the next few weeks and enjoy the views. We hope you can stay at Mountain Vista during our Beavers Bend cabin fall foliage special!Beavers Bend cabin fall Foliage Special

Broken Bow Lake Fishing Report

Broken Bow Lake Fishing Report

I enjoyed a nice fishing weekend on Broken Bow Lake. My family had one of the first boat slips on the lake when it opened decades ago. I’ve been fishing the lake since I was six-years old and the scenery still takes my breath away.

Broken Bow Lake Fishing Report

Broken Bow Lake Sunrise

Saturday we went after crappie and covered numerous creek channels and coves on Southeastern Oklahoma’s most pristine water. Broken Bow’s premiere fishing guide and pal, Bryce Archey, referred us to KD’s Guide Service. I grew up with KD and hadn’t seen him in years. It was great reconnecting and he delivered an awesome crappie fishing experience.

We were fishing at 15 feet with minnows and enjoyed lots of success. My buddy even landed a nice five-pound catfish about five minutes after his line was in the water. Once the sun began heating up around 11:00 a.m., the bites slowed considerably.

Broken Bow Lake Fishing

Bass were our prey for Sunday’s outing and Bryce referred to us to Jerry Walthall of 4 Seasons Guide Service. Jerry is a veteran angler on Broken Bow Lake and a joy to be with on the water. We enjoyed lots of laughs and several fishing lessons during the day with Jerry.

Broken Bow Lake is still elevated but the fishing is returning to normal after the torrential rainfall earlier this year. We were having luck with crankbaits and plastic worms near brush.

The North end of Broken Bow Lake is a popular area for serious anglers. There is much less recreational boating and skiing in this area to disrupt the water.

Broken Bow Lake Fishing Report

Broken Bow Lake Fishing Report

Fall is usually a fantastic time to enjoy a fishing outing on Broken bow Lake. Guides tell me October and November are two of the best angling months of the year.

October and November is also a great time to visit Mountain Vista cabin in Beavers Bend. Our 20-mile view is spectacular. The forest surrounding the cabin is breathtaking during the fall foliage season.

We do things very differently at Mountain Vista compared to many other cabins in Beavers Bend. We were the first to promote no add-on fees. Now, several others are doing the same. Many are not.

Resort fees coupled with cleaning and insurance charges can really ding your pocketbook when renting a cabin. Tack on another $50-$100 for firewood and s’mores and the cabin’s discounted price suddenly becomes much higher.

We never charge these fees at Mountain Vista. Our guests love the s’mores kits along with free firewood and luxury amenities.

Hopefully, I’ll have another Broken Bow Lake fishing report for you in the fall. I hope you will drop a line in Oklahoma’s most beautiful lake soon. Don’t forget to invite me to your fish fry!

Secluded Cabins In Broken Bow

Secluded Broken Bow Cabins

Mountain Vista

Secluded cabins in Broken Bow with tremendous views are becoming more difficult to find. The booming tourism industry in Beavers Bend has resulted in more cabins and smaller lots. They’re usually only an acre or less and another rental cabin is usually within eyeshot.

You won’t find many pictures like the one above on a website advertising luxury cabin rentals. They don’t want to show you another cabin a few feet away or a noisy, dusty road nearby.

There’s a difference between rental cabins and vacation homes in Beavers Bend State Park. Rental cabins tend to exaggerate maximum occupancy. Vacation homeowners want great visitors and minimal wear and tear on their property. We don’t want to cram you in and charge another $25 per-person.

Our vacation home, Mountain Vista, accommodates six adults and two children. You’ll see other cabins wanting to pack you in like sardines in order to make a buck. Sleeping bags, bunk beds and rollaway couches are the norm for many…not us.

If you’re shopping for good cabin deals, make sure to do the math. Don’t overlook add-on fees; they can tack on up to 20%. You won’t realize it until the final click or two when reserving online. Cleaning and insurance charges along with resort fees will pound your pocketbook into submission. We never charge extra fees and even the firewood is free! Others attempt to charge over $100 for a several day supply.

Acres of Seclusion

We’re having another stellar year at BeaversBendVacations.com. Only a handful of weekends remain open at Mountain Vista until after Thanksgiving. Sherri and I have enjoyed seeing a record number of repeat visitors this year. Several guests reserve our vacation home five to six times per-year!

There are scores of fantastic cabins in the Broken Bow Lake region. We sometimes get up to 20 emails or calls per-day requesting a Beavers Bend cabin recommendation. We have a few favorites and are happy to help you even if we’re already booked.

When looking for secluded cabins in Broken Bow, do your homework and get references. Checkout ours!  You don’t want any surprises.

I enjoy the feedback our blog receives. We were the first to blog in Beavers Bend and we have thousands of readers each month.

What are the best and worst experiences you’ve had renting luxury cabins in Broken Bow? Did you get hit with those pesky add-on charges? Did your cabin look completely different from the website pictures upon arrival?

Cabin owners…are you being hit with unnecessary fees from management companies? Is your cabin being marketed properly with professional video and media? We can help.

Send me a note. I’ll have a prize for the most amusing story!

Beavers Bend Fall Foliage Season

Beavers Bend Fall Foliage Season

Beavers Bend fall foliage season is just around the corner and now’s the time to book your stay at Mountain Vista.

Only a few weekend dates remain available to enjoy our spectacular 20-mile views from the deck.

Oklahoma City residents traveling to Beavers Bend State Park in October and November should take the Talimena Drive. Travel on I-40 East to Sallisaw, OK and venture down Highway 259 South to Broken Bow. Your trip will be incomplete without taking in this scenic jaunt during Beavers Bend fall foliage season.

This route will only add about an hour to your trip but it’s well worth it.

Beavers Bend To Talimena Drive

Talimena Drive

When searching for luxury lodging accommodations during Beavers Bend fall foliage season,  do your homework. There are 1,000 cabins available for rent, many from owners. Others are marketed by large cabin management companies.

Determine if you want to deal directly with cabin owners or management companies. Many cabins are popping up in Broken Bow lately that are owned solely by management companies.

These cabins are often less luxurious than someone’s vacation home. They exist only for a management company to make a profit. These management companies have 30-50 cabins to juggle. Often the renter is simply a “number” rather than a guest.

At Mountain Vista, you’re surrounded by acres of seclusion and stunning views. Our views are so spectacular that other management companies have fraudulently put them on their websites. I guess imitation is the best form of flattery!

Download our Beavers Bend app for tourist information and special offers.  App fans have enjoyed many VIP offers to Mountain Vista through the years. It also pays to be one of the scores who read my blog each month.

We have a special rate for August 12-13 at Mountain Vista. Contact us for details.

As summer draws to a close, plan your Beavers Bend fall foliage season stay at Mountain Vista. It’s our vacation home, not just another cabin rental!

Will My Beavers Bend Cabin Be Secluded?

One of the biggest questions people want to know when visiting the Broken Bow Lake area is “Will my Beavers Bend cabin be secluded?”

There are about 1,000 cabins for rent in Beavers Bend. Some are cheap, under $100. Many are expensive, well over $400 per night. If you’re choosing an upscale cabin make sure to check references and investigate what the term “secluded” really means on a cabin website.

Look for pictures and video of the property perimeter. Do you homework to make sure there are no cabins 30 feet away…you may not want to hear every word going on at the Jones’ Family Reunion next door!

Mountain Vista in Beavers Bend has three-king bedrooms and private decks boasting a terrific view of nature. When gazing westward, you’ll see a stunning 20-mile of the Kiamichi Mountains. We also have acres of seclusion in the upscale Southern Hills Addition.

The list of “Who’s Who” that have visited Mountain Vista is second-to-none. Dan Boren-former United States Congressman, Jeff Stone-CEO of Skeeter Boats, Toby Rowland-Voice of the Oklahoma Sooners and Jim Traber-Former Baltimore Oriole and OKC radio host, are just a few that have made BeaversBendVacations.com their vacation destination.

We always feature free s’mores kits and firewood. There are no additional charges for cleaning or insurance and there are a few extras that our guests love! You’ll never pay resort fees or incur needless add-on charges at our vacation home.

Will my Beavers Bend Cabin be secluded?

Mountain Fork River

Many luxury cabins in Beavers Bend tend to oversell how many people they can accommodate. We do just the opposite…your comfort is our priority. Scrutinize any cabin stating they can hold 15-20 people. Sleeping bags scattered all over the place isn’t our style.

July is packed at Mountain Vista but we have dates available in August and September. The fall foliage season is only a few months away and it’s one of our busiest times of the year.

Will my Beavers Bend cabin Be secluded?

Mountain Vista, Broken Bow, OK

Make sure you know the answer regarding “Will my Beavers Bend cabin be secluded?”

We’d love to help you plan a Beavers Bend getaway. Two-million tourists visit Broken Bow annually for a reason…It’s gorgeous here!

Broken Bow, OK Flooding Update

Broken Bow Flooding Update

Broken Bow, OK flooding update…

David Payne, chief meteorologist at KWTV in Oklahoma City gave me his expert analysis regarding the situation in Beavers Bend State Park. David has been a guest at Mountain Vista through the years and we always enjoy welcoming him back to our vacation home.

I featured him on our blog last year. He loves Beavers Bend and is a frequent visitor to the Broken Bow Lake region.

“We are ending May as the wettest May on record. It is also the wettest month on record. These records date back to the late 1890’s. Another wave of rain this morning will continue to cause rising water on our area lakes, streams and rivers. Another wave or rain and storms will arrive tomorrow with additional heavy rain. A final wave of rain will hang around into Saturday with more flooding possible. By Sunday we begin to dry out and that will last for much of next week,” David said.

David is the top-rated meteorologist in the competitive Oklahoma City television weather market and we’re fortunate to have access to his expertise. He broadcasted seven or eight hours on live television a couple of weeks ago with no break…That’s why he’s the best in OKC! There’s none better in the market doing severe weather coverage than him.

If you’re visiting Beavers Bend this weekend, it’ll be a great time to bond with family and friends…indoors! Many of the best comments we receive from guests at Mountain Vista cabin are during bad weather. Our crock pot and fully furnished kitchen get lots of use when the weather is dreary.

A severe thunderstorm warning was just issued for Broken Bow, OK as I’m typing this.

Our cabin is always a great place to watch the storms come rolling in. I captured this video a couple of years ago from our upper deck.

Thanks to David Payne for giving us his expert insight into what to expect this weekend in Beavers Bend.
